THE ONLY EDUCATIVE CULTURAL PROGRAM IN SUPPORT TO CHILDREN FROM DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES

The Nutcracker Fund for children was created in 1997 by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal to allow underprivileged children to attend a free performance of The Nutcracker and to participate to educational workshops. The Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec has since joined us, choosing schools at random from Montreal’s most disadvantaged communities to take part in the program.

So far, 24,600 children have experienced this unique holiday magic, thanks to generous contributions from businesses and individuals. This year, the Fund will allow 2,800 children among them 1,000 children from some twenty organizations and foundations related to children and health – to see the show and participate in choreographic, costumes and visual arts workshops based on The Nutcracker.

2014 BRUNCH-BENEFIT: Sunday, December 14, 2014 at noon, Piano Nobile of Place des Arts, followed at 2 p.m. by a performance of The Nutcracker.

DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF THE NUTCRACKER WITH THE NUTCRACKER FUND VIDEO

“Students were thrilled; (…) they all got attached to a character and were impatient to see him on stage. The preparation in class allowed them to understand the part of each artist and what they had to work on to make the show a success. (…) The costumes were wonderful and the dancers were fantastic! The music blew us away; we even closed our eyes to savor it. (…) Congratulations on an amazing job. (…) Thank you so much for having offered us such a gift!" Mariana Manolis, 1st cycle teacher, Bois-Franc-Aquarelle School, visual arts workshop

“Children were dazzled. The magic surrounding the preparation of the show… the willing to finally see the famous Nutcracker… (…) I wish all teachers would have the chance to be chosen to participate to this project!” L. Rochefort, 1st cycle teacher, Barclay School, literary workshop

“Mind-blowing! The preparation with the storyteller and the literary workshop really helped us understanding and appreciating the show. (…) She knew how to keep children in suspense for such a long time… It’s remarkable!” Cathy Jacques, 1st cycle teacher, Jean-Nicolet School, literary workshop
