The Fund was created 15 years ago by Les Grands Ballets to allow underprivileged children to attend a free performance of The Nutcracker. The Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec has since joined us, choosing schools at random from Montreal's most disadvantaged communities to take part in the program. Thanks to generous contributions from businesses and individuals, 19,000 children have so far experienced this unique holiday magic.

PHOTOS OF THE WORK OF ART

See below the work of art made during the Nutcracker Fund’s visual art workshops.

During the 2012 Fall, artists Marie-Line Leblanc and Danièle DeBlois made it possible for the children to express their creativity by illustrating one of the characters or scenes from The Nutcracker.

“The workshop in visual arts was extraordinary, surpassing my expectations. The artist, Eugénia, has a superb approach with the students. The show was fantastic... the students are still talking about it.Bravo, you’ve achieved your goal—of making children happy!.”

Susanne Jarry, Teacher, École Saint-Vincent-Marie, 1st Cycle

“I think this program is wonderful. It lets disadvantaged children view the arts from a different angle and see dance as something accessible to all. The Nutcracker Fund breaks down the barriers between the public and what is considered an elitist discipline.”

John Hall, former soloist with Les Grands Ballets.
