MRS. CONSTANCE V. PATHY, PRESIDENT OF LES GRANDS BALLETS, NAMED TO THE ORDER OF CANADA

Constance V. Pathy, présidente du conseil d’administration MONTRÉAL, January 14th, 2014 - Les Grands Ballets is proud to announce that Mrs. Constance V. Pathy, president of the board of directors, was officially named to the Order of Canada on December 30th, 2013. 90 new nominations were appointed by David Hohnson, General Governor of Canada, to celebrate contributions to several domains, including science, environment, education, sports and culture. Mrs. Pathy was named for her great contribution to the upholding and progress of dance and music in Québec. « This award celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of this exceptional, great-hearted woman. The love that Mrs. Pathy has for the Arts is famous across the country, as is her humility and generosity. She is, without a doubt, one of our greatest patrons, amongst the most admired and fulfilled in Quebec and Canada. Les Grands Ballets is grateful for all she has done for the development of this institution and wishes to congratulate her for this highly deserved distinction. » - Alain Dancyger, Executive Director for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal Mrs. Pathy studied law and specialized in international law at Leiden University in her native country, Holland. She received a United Nations grant and lived in New York for 12 months, to study the status of women, before coming to Canada in 1960. She quickly became involved in Montreal’s cultural life, becoming a member of the board of directors of the Orchestre des Jeunes du Québec, the McGill Chamber Orchestra, the Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal (vice-president and interim president), the Canadian Music Competition (president), Early Music America and many more. She also sat at the executive committee of the Canadian Art Summit from its foundation in 1998 until 2002, and presided over the board from 2000 to 2001. This prestigious nomination adds to many other awards received by Mrs. Pathy, including the Governor General’s Award and the title of Knight of the Ordre national du Québec.
