Auditions for The Nutcracker on September 9, 10 and 11 2010 in Montréal

AUDITIONS FOR THE NUTCRACKER
BY LES GRANDS BALLETS CANADIENS DE MONTRÉAL
WILL BE HELD SEPTEMBER 9, 10 AND 11, 2010 IN MONTRÉAL


Montréal, May 19, 2010 - Since 1964, thousands of children have had their dream come true by being part of the cast of The Nutcracker ballet, a magical Christmas tale produced and performed by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal. This year, on the production's 46th anniversary, some 100 children will once again have the exciting opportunity to perform alongside the company's 39 dancers. Les Grands Ballets will hold auditionsin September for the roles of Children at the Party, Angels, Rats, Mice, Reindeer, Sheep, Matriochkas and Asians. The auditions will take place in Montréal on Thursday and Friday, September 9 and 10, at Les Grands Ballets' studios, 4816 Rivard Street (Laurier métro), and on Saturday, September 11, at YMCA du Parc, 5550 Park Avenue (corner Saint-Viateur Street).

Children from Montréal chosen for the various roles will participate in presentations of The Nutcracker from December 11 to 30, 2010, at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier of Place des Arts, Montréal.

REQUIREMENTS
- Children must have completed one year of dance training.
- Because the costumes have already been made, we ask that the heights mentioned below be respected. Children exceeding specified measurements will not be allowed to audition.
- Children must be at least seven years of age to audition.

INFORMATION
Registration is not required. Parents need simply bring their children to the audition for the chosen role at the location and time indicated above at least 30 minutes prior to the audition.

2010 AUDITION SCHEDULE FOR THE NUTCRACKER

Thursday, September 9 (Les Grands Ballets' studios, 4816 Rivard Street, Montréal)

5:30 - 6:45 p.m. Matriochkas (please bring your character shoes):girls aged 14 and over, measuring 1.52 m (5 ft) to 1.68 m (5 ft 6 in).

6:45 - 7:30 p.m. Black sheep: girls aged 10 to 13, measuring 1.37 m (4 ft 1/2 in) to 1.57 m (5 ft 2 in).

7:30 - 9 p.m. Asians and Reindeer: girls aged 12 and over, measuring 1.54 m (5 ft 1 in) to 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in).


Friday, September 10 (Les Grands Ballets' studios, 4816 Rivard Street, Montréal)

5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Angels: girls aged 12 and over, measuring between 1.57 m (5 ft 2 in) and 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in).

7:30 - 9 p.m. Rats: girls and boys aged 14 and over, measuring 1.57 m (5 ft 2 in) and over.


Saturday, September 11 (YMCA du Parc, 5550, Park Avenue, Montréal)

10 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Children at the Party (girls): girls aged 9 to 11.

11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. White sheep: girls aged 9 to 11.

1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. Children at the party (boys): boys aged 9 to 13.

1:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. Mice: girls and boys aged 7 to 9, measuring between 1.10 m (3 ft 6 in)and 1.30 m (4 ft 2 in).


3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Angels: girls aged 12 and over, measuring 1.57 m (5 ft 2 in) to 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in).

4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. Rats: girls and boys aged 14 and over, measuring 1.57 m (5 ft 2 in) and over
