EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Alain Dancyger

A native of Limoges, France, Alain Dancyger studied violin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London from 1977 to 1978.  He then prepared his Masters in Music with Maestros Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and graduated in 1984.  In 1987 he obtained a Masters in Business Administration from the École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales (E.S.S.E.C) in Paris.

Before joining Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Alain Dancyger was a founding member of the Viri Duo and the Iris Trio. With the Jeunesses Musicales of Yugoslavia, he toured extensively throughout Yugoslavia, France, Belgium and the United States. He also participated in various summer festivals and performed on Capitol Hill in Washington. Alain Dancyger held different management and marketing positions in Paris and in New York.  In 1987 and 1988, he was acting Internal Consultant for the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (S.N.C.F) in Paris and from 1988 to 1991, he was invited by the company Frenchrail, a subsidiary of the S.N.C.F. in New York, to establish the sales and marketing departments for the North American market. He relocated to Montreal in 1991 to work as Assistant Director at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts. He was promoted Director in 1993 and held that position until August 1996, when he was appointed Executive Director of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal.

Applying his expertise in marketing, fund raising and arts management, Alain Dancyger has enhanced the strategic vision of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, and has positively influenced the development of the arts in Montreal more generally. Since 1998, he has sat on the Regroupement Québécois de la Danse board, on the Canadian Arts Summit, on the DIA/DSA Advisory Board of Concordia University, on the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre Museum « Wise Committee », and on the Canadian Dance Assembly (CDA) Advocacy Committee, and he was elected Chair of the CDA Ballet Companies Standing Council (2009-2012). He also acts regularly as a guest lecturer in the HEC Arts Manager Program.
